Votifier Not Working? How to Fix Minecraft Vote Delivery Problems

Votes not reaching your Minecraft server? Check the Votifier port, token, firewall and plugin settings with this step-by-step troubleshooting guide for server owners.

You set up vote rewards, players voted, and nothing happened in game. This is one of the most common problems Minecraft server owners run into, and it is almost always one of a handful of causes. This guide walks through them in the order that finds the problem fastest.

First, understand the path a vote takes

A vote travels through four steps. The problem is always at one of them:

  1. The player votes on the list.
  2. The list connects to your server's Votifier port and sends the vote.
  3. The Votifier plugin (such as NuVotifier) receives it and checks it.
  4. A rewards plugin (such as VotingPlugin) gives the reward.

If you use TopRealms, the Send test vote button in your dashboard tests steps 2 and 3 and tells you in plain words what went wrong. Start there.

Step 1: Press "Send test vote"

Open your server in the dashboard, find Voting plugin (Votifier) and send a test vote. The answer points you to the right fix below.

"Connection refused"

Nothing is listening on that port.

  • Check the port in plugins/Votifier/config.yml. It is usually 8192, but the file is the truth.
  • Make sure the plugin is installed and loaded without errors. Look at the server console after start-up.
  • Make sure you are not using a different port in the dashboard.
  • If your host runs several servers on one machine, the port may belong to another one.

"The server did not answer in time"

The connection never arrives, usually because something blocks it.

  • Firewall: open the port for TCP traffic on your VPS or machine.
  • Hosting panel: many panels need you to request an extra port. Some hosts do not allow it, so ask their support.
  • Router (home servers): forward the port to the right computer.
  • Wrong address: use the public address that players use, not a private one.

"The server did not accept our signature" or token errors

The token on TopRealms is not the one your plugin uses.

  • Open plugins/Votifier/config.yml and copy the token again.
  • Copy only the token, with no quote marks or spaces around it.
  • If you changed the token, update it on TopRealms and save.

"Your server uses the older Votifier (v1)"

Your server asks for a public key instead of a token. Paste the whole line from plugins/Votifier/rsa/public.key. If you can, switch to NuVotifier, which supports the newer token method.

"That port did not answer like Votifier"

Something else is listening on the port. Check that the port number is right, and that it is not your game port, a web panel or a database.

The test works, but players get no reward

Now the vote reaches your server, so look at the rewards plugin:

  1. Site name. In VotingPlugin the ServiceSite for the site must be exactly TopRealms.
  2. Rewards. Check that rewards are set for the site and not disabled.
  3. Offline players. If a player is offline, the reward may wait until they log in. Check the plugin's offline-vote setting.
  4. Player name. A vote is matched by name. A typo means the vote goes to someone else, or nobody.
  5. Console. Look at the console when a vote arrives, because VotingPlugin and NuVotifier print a line for each vote.

Votes worked, then stopped

  • Your server was offline. We try again over several hours. After that, a vote is dropped.
  • Many votes failed in a row. We pause sending and email you. Fix the problem, send a test vote and save to turn delivery back on.
  • You changed the port, token or host. Update them in your dashboard.
  • A plugin update changed a setting. Re-check config.yml.

A checklist you can follow

  1. Votifier plugin installed, loaded without errors
  2. Port open for TCP from the internet
  3. Port and token in the dashboard match config.yml
  4. Test vote says delivered
  5. VotingPlugin site named TopRealms, enabled, with rewards
  6. A real vote shows a line in the console

When Votifier is not possible

Some hosts cannot open an extra port. You still have options. Use the signed vote callback or the vote check described in how to reward players for voting, or ask your host about a plan that includes extra ports.

For a full walkthrough of the first-time setup, read how to set up VotingPlugin. To get more of the votes that make rewards worth it, read how to get more votes.

Frequently asked questions

Why do my votes not arrive on my Minecraft server?

Usually the port is closed, the port or token does not match, or the rewards plugin does not recognise the site name. A test vote shows which one.

What port does Votifier use?

The default is 8192. You can change it in the plugin config. Use the same number everywhere.

Do I need to open a port for Votifier?

Yes. The voting site has to connect to your server, so the port must be reachable from the internet.

Why does it say delivered but players get nothing?

The vote reached Votifier, but the rewards plugin did not match the site name or has no rewards for it. Check ServiceSite and the reward settings.

Can I use TopRealms without Votifier?

Yes. You can use the signed vote callback or the vote check instead, or just let players vote without in-game rewards.
